Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, expressed strong support for India’s right to self-defense on Wednesday, following India’s missile strikes under “Operation Sindoor” that targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Azar reinforced Israel’s stance in a post on X, stating, “Israel supports India’s right for self-defense. Terrorists should know there’s no place to hide from their heinous crimes against the innocent. #OperationSindoor.” His statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region after Indian forces launched a targeted strike against terror infrastructure linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The remarks from the Israeli envoy highlight the close alignment between Israel and India on counter-terrorism efforts, particularly in dealing with threats posed by terrorism. Israel has long been a proponent of decisive action against terrorist groups that threaten peace and security.
In response to India’s actions, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he is closely monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan, stressing the importance of de-escalating tensions. US President Donald Trump also acknowledged the Indian strikes and expressed hope for a swift resolution to the situation.
The UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, called on both nations to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.
India’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that the strikes were in direct response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. The Ministry emphasized that the operation was focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature, with no Pakistani military facilities targeted.
The coordinated operation, involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, successfully struck nine terror targets across Pakistan and PoJK, including key facilities linked to JeM and LeT. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reportedly overseeing the operation, which was carried out using precision munitions to neutralize the terror leaders responsible for planning attacks on Indian soil.
